Juicy Jalapeño Maple Burgers
So - I love meat. I just do. I don’t think I could go one day without eating meat. I have a lot of respect for those who do … but I can’t. Sometimes I’m convinced I’m literally on a high from just eating good meat. Probably means I’m anemic…
Anywho. Here’s a yummy homemade burger recipe that I think is worth trying and eating. We love. Top however you want! I’m a sucker for ketchup and mustard and (yes more) jalapeños, but you do you!
Active Time: 10 mins Inactive Time: at least 30 mins but best overnight Yields: 5
Per Serving: 285 cal 21.1 g protein 17.1 g fat 11.5 g carbs
Ingredients:
1.34 lb organic ground beef (I use Costco’s - you can alternatively do 1 lb and get 4 servings)
2 medium jalapeños, chopped
1/4 cup pure maple syrup
1 tsp salt
1 tsp ground black pepper
1 tsp smoked paprika
Directions:
The night before (or at least 30 mins before):
1. Wash & chop up the jalapeños into small pieces. Try to remove most of the seeds - but they add spice and flavor, so keep some if you want some kick! I keep maybe 10-20% of them.
2. Place in a gallon / half gallon freezer bag, then add the defrosted meat. Note: if your meat is mostly defrosted, that will also work.
3. Place remaining ingredients in the bag, then ziploc shut and knead with your hands until all is well blended. Store in your refrigerator.
When you’re ready to eat it:
4. Split your meat into 5 equal sections. Flatten slightly. You can also just make 2 or 3 if you need, and leave the rest for the next day or so - just make sure your meat isn’t hanging out for too long or else it will go bad. USDA recommends 3-5 days in the fridge max!
5. Take a pan and heat on medium to medium high. Once it’s warm enough (i.e. water crackles if you sprinkle some on the pan), add patties. Cook to your desired doneness. I prefer medium and it takes about 3-4 minutes each side.
6. Serve with your favorite veggies, potatoes, and toppings. Enjoy!
